GO nutz this winter!

Don’t be nuts about nuts! They are not fatty, rich in cholestrol or a cause of heart attack – these are all myths associated with nuts. A small amount of nuts daily keeps the mineral and vitamin ratio of the body in good shape. Nobody eats nuts in lunch or dinner, they are usually taken early in the morning before breakfast- that is the time when it works best for the body. A walk before it will surely keep you healthy, wealthy and wise for the rest of your life.

For many years, nuts have gotten a bad rapport for being fatty, I mean rich in fat content. But in reality, nuts are a vital part of our diet, as they are high in monounsaturated fats that actually keep the heart-healthy! Nuts are one of the healthiest snack foods, according to many research studies, and they may even have more healthy benefits than many vegetables and fruits. In fact, walnuts provide necessary omega-3 fatty acids – which is vital for the brain and also provides an excellent alternative for those who do not eat fish.

They are also great sources of protein, minerals and other life-enhancing nutrients. Scientific studies now show that different types of nuts and seeds can actually prevent heart disease, weight gain and the accumulation of LDL cholesterol.

They should be consumed in their original state, not roasted, burnt or salted sugar coated etc. A small handful of almonds gives you almost 25% percent of your daily needs for magnesium, and more bone-strengthening calcium. Almonds also help eliminate a headache – because, like aspirin, almonds contain salicylates, the same natural chemical that will reduce inflammation and block pain signals. Just a handful will provide the same benefit as two aspirins without the possibility of stomach upsets! I take two almonds daily, early in the morning to have a headache free day!  They are also high in many antioxidants, such as vitamin E and selenium. They might also prevent from an occurring colon cancer and also reduces the fat content and cholesterol levels in blood. One of the best nuts on earth are walnuts which may increase our brain function. This shows that consumption of walnuts is related to better cognitive function. Researchers have shown that walnuts contain 16 disease-fighting polyphenols.

Recent clinical studies show that pecans – another nut significantly lower the cholesterol levels.  They are a great source of twenty essential vitamins and minerals. Brazil nuts are high in heart-healthy nutrients and minerals like copper, niacin, vitamin E, fiber, magnesium, and selenium, studies on Brazil nuts show that this protein-packed snack may aid in the prevention of breast cancer. Just three Brazil nuts will give you a day’s worth of this important mineral. Selenium has mood-boosting, and anti-anxiety properties.

Raw nuts are a big part of my diet and pack the most energy of any other food. They make a healthy snack that is low in calories. Healthy nuts are definitely a great addition to my diet and I consume it daily, especially during winter season!
